FAQ
a.k.a. the fine print
Back to the sahityalaya main page
- Since this is experimental stuff, this document will mutate over some period.
- The sahityalay material can be borrowed by MMLA members for free.
A one time deposit of USD 10 is needed to warrant against loss/damage of
material, delay in returning etc.
- At the end of the calendar year the members can get their
deposit back, or continue it for the next year, or donate the money to the
sahityalaya to acquire more material.
- Yearly dues for nonmembers are USD 20 (besides the deposit
of USD 10). They are encouraged to add another USD 20 and become MMLA member
instead (and get other MMLA benefits automagically for the whole calendar year)
- Upto 2 books can be borrowed at a time.
- Currently there is no hold system. Suggestions on this are welcome
- Books can be kept for up to a month. If there are no takers at the end of the month,
the borrowing period can be extended for another month.
- The fine for keeping an item beyond the stipulated period is
1 USD. If you are late by more than a month, it is 5 USD.
- You may also pass on the material to other MMLA library members to be returned,
but if the material does not get back, you - the borrower - are responsible for the
ensuing fines.
- We do not encourage patrons to send items back by post. You could contact your
nearest LJ or email us if you have difficulties bringing it back. If you do mail it,
you have to bear the cost, and if the material does not make it back, you will be
responsible for the fine.
- Books can be borrowed from and returned to a mobile site
or the location of MMLA programs.
- During each MMLA program, the sahityalaya items that have not been
lent out will be available for borrowing at the site of the program (during registration,
and when food is served). Items can also be returned there.
- Each mobile center works for 2 hours on a weekend day once a month.
The schedule is announced in advance. Some LJs (Library Jockey)
are more flexible and
will allow you to contact them any time on their day to return your material.
- The introductory size of the collection is modest, but represents different
types of writings as well as a variety of authors. This will gradually
increase.
- We will also be introducing audio-visual material as time goes by.
- Donations in kind (material) and cash are welcome. Especially, if you have
books that you have read enough number of times and would like to share them with
fellow-MMLAliens, please get in touch with us. Appropriate acknowledgement will of course
be done.

- Based on the interest of patrons in an area, we also plan to start
book-club like meetings at some of the mobile centers. These can coincide
with the time slot for that center. Please contact us if you are interested.
- Suggestions and critical comments are (always) welcome.
